Stopped by James Hook & Co. on my last day in Boston after a local recommended it--what a solid way to end the trip! The place has a laid-back, coastal vibe that really makes you feel like you're right by the ocean (which you basically are). There's even a tank of live lobsters up front, which adds to the charm. Ordering was simple: walk up, place your order, get a number, and wait for them to call it out. I went all in and ordered a large lobster roll with mayo, shrimp cocktail, and a cup of New England clam chowder. The lobster roll was loaded with fresh, plump lobster meat. Super fresh--just wish it had a touch more seasoning to really make it pop. The clam chowder was rich, hearty, and comforting. Perfectly satisfying. And the shrimp cocktail? Excellent. The shrimp were big, juicy, and chilled just right. Overall, it's a great casual spot for classic New England seafood. Definitely worth checking out if you're in town and want something unfussy but delicious.

Really great clam chowder, definitely recommend that. The lobster roll was $35 for the smaller size and was just lobster, butter, and a slice of bread. If you like lobster you'll probably love this but for the price it's hard to recommend for those new to lobster. Service was fine, the man taking orders seem slightly irritated by taking orders but there is also a line 24/7 so I can't really blame him.

Revisited this place since I'm back in Boston. My sister's first time and she enjoyed it! We just ordered the small clam chowder ($10.99), which is kinda pricy considering how small it is (I think it was 8 oz). Still great and tasty, as usual. Love that there are lots of clam chunks, which are fresh and big, not rubbery at all. Chowder is so creamy and delicious on a cold day like this. Seating is limited indoors because no one wants to brave the chill by sitting outside in the patio. Public bathrooms are outside by the ramp.

Clam chowder soup was tasty! Bread was soft and buttery, lobster super fresh! It was cool to see the live lobsters and I appreciated the warm setup. Service was quick, efficient, waiter was nothing special she could have been nicer but everything else was perfect.

One of my favorite places offering easy on-the-go lobster rolls. I love that you can also get soups and live or prepared lobster to go. We've come here for lunch and sat by the deck area. We've so stopped in for prepared foods to bring to friends' homes for a BBQ. The staff is super efficient and friendly. A must when in Boston.

Ambiance: outside of the restaurant is cute. inside is pretty casual and small. Service: it's a fast casual restaurant. you order and they call out your numbers Food: the lobster roll was so amazing! the lobster itself was fresh & not rubbery like many restaurants i've had a lobster roll at. i also liked that they gave you a side of butter for extra. my only complaint is that the bread was soggy. i opened it right away and the side was falling apart - not sure if it sat on the counter for a few minutes prior to the host grabbing it. but they are generous with the amount of lobster. i had to eat some before eating the roll. truly one of the best lobster rolls ive had

We heard this was a staple in Boston for their rolls so we decided to check it out. Service was very friendly and the line moved pretty quickly. I enjoyed the outside seating since they had heaters but the inside was a bit crowded. Which means people clearly enjoy their food, just be aware it's not like a typical "restaurant" vibe. My crab cake was good and the rolls were pretty solid as well. Just being from out of town they're a bit on the pricier side. However, you have to try one when in Boston. Overall worth it if you know what to expect! Nice views nearby as well

FOOD: It's rare you'll have the roll unable to hold all of the lobster in - but that's a problem (positive connotation) at James Hook with the large size! I got the large lobster roll with mayo. You can tell the lobster is fresh and you get some bang for your buck at $34.99 compared to other spots in the city. I think their hot roll may be more for me, so I look forward to trying that another time. AMBIANCE: This spot not only sells prepared food, but it's also a seafood market. I've cooked with their lobster meat and it's great quality.

Came here on a Sunday stroll after walking through snowport. The food is absolutely delicious and well worth the cost. Everything comes out hot and perfectly cooked. The service was quick and easy. It's not a sit down restaurant so don't expect a server to come and take your order. It's an order, get your food, and find a place to sit. The ambiance of the place is super cool but nothing spectacular.

Always down to party like a LobSTAR! Recently visited on a Sunday afternoon. Was able to snag some street parking about a block away. They were taking orders both at the truck outside and inside. Since it was a little chilly opted to order inside. Waited for about 10 mins since there were other orders ahead of us. Got a warm lobster roll and it came with a small cup of melted butter. grabbed a table outside without any issues. The bread was fresh and soft. The lobster meat was also soft and not rubbery in texture. Pretty tasty! I would definitely eat this again!
